Shuang Li: Distance of the Moon
November 6, 2024 – January 12, 2025

Prada is pleased to present Distance of the Moon, an exhibition by Shuang Li, with the support of Fondazione Prada, at Prada Rong Zhai in Shanghai. This historic 1918 residence, restored by Prada, will host Li’s first solo institutional exhibition in Asia, featuring a series of new works created specifically for the venue.

Through multimedia installations, including light, sound, resin sculptures, and video, the exhibition delves into themes of digital communication, intergenerational tension, and the impact of technology on intimacy. Central to the show is Li’s exploration of how technological tools designed to connect us often create distance, a theme she links to her personal experiences during the pandemic and her upbringing under China's one-child policy.

The exhibition’s title, drawn from Italo Calvino’s Cosmicomics, reflects themes of proximity and separation. Works include a large-scale chandelier translating a personal letter into telegraph code, resin objects that encapsulate fleeting memories, and a video recounting the inefficiency of language during moments of isolation.

Distance of the Moon highlights the tensions between physical and digital realms, offering a poignant reflection on the paradoxes of modern communication.
