Rebecca Ackroyd at Kestner Gesellschaft, Hanover, Germany

Rebecca Ackroyd's solo exhibition, Period Drama, is opening this Saturday, November 4, at Kestner Gesellschaft, Hanover, Germany.

Period Drama is Ackroyd’s first institutional solo exhibition in Germany. Reflecting on both individual and collective memories assembled in a fragmented but fascinating narrative, the artist presents a new, alluring yet uncanny installation in the domed and arcaded hall, that is at once fragile, incomplete, and profoundly existent. Her works coalesce in it to form an environment suspended between surreal landscapes and visceral now, a threshold where the viewer is prompted to reconsider not only femininity and corporeality, but also the human consciousness itself.

Period Drama opens this Saturday and will run until February 18, 2024.

Rebecca Ackroyd’s (b. 1987 in Cheltenham, UK) practice assembles painting and sculptural works into dream-like landscapes. Staging encounters with ubiquitous, innocuous objects that are steeped with a sense of the uncanny, her work explores the body, the passage of time, and memory, with a focus on their fragmentation and distortion.
