Javier Peres is pleased to present a new body of work by the Spanish artist Antonio BALLESTER MORENO from the artist's recent solo exhibition at Laboratorio 987/MUSAC (Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Castilla y Leon), entitled "Gallo rojo, gallo negro." Born in Madrid in 1977, the artist studied at the Universitt der Knste in Berlin and graduated from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he studied both painting and more contemporary forms of art practice.
The new body of work combines multi-layered acrylic and ink on canvas works with ink drawings on paper. The exhibition title refers to a song by singer-songwriter Chicho Snchez Ferlosio that was adopted as an anthem against Franco's dictatorship.
At once highly politicized, yet sometimes hermetic, Antonio Ballester Moreno's work combines the aesthetics of everyday life - arts and crafts, embroidery, pottery and tiles - with a very personal set of references. Drawing on everything from film to American transcendentalist writings, from music to the anti-globilization movement, Antonio Ballester Moreno creates scenes in the simple lives of men and women, glorious views into the lives of kings, and a playful romp with some very personable animals.
